Historical Background
The Lusaka Ministerial College has a short but winding history. It began as the Kabwata Baptist Church Preachers Class in the early 1990s and was started for the purpose of training lay preachers in the local church. Later the pastors of Mount Makulu Baptist Church and Lusaka Baptist Church asked that this becomes a joint venture so that three English speaking Reformed Baptist Churches could use this channel to train preachers. Thus, it changed its name to Lusaka Reformed Preachers College (LRPC) from 1994 onwards and came under the oversight of the three churches. A missionary from the USA came to Zambia in 2010 and asked that he runs the college. He then modified it so that it targeted pastors from Lusaka’s sprawling high density compounds (townships) and changed its name to Lusaka Ministerial College (LMC) and brought it under the oversight of the elders Kabwata Baptist Church. In 2021 it came under the joint ownership and oversight of the elders of the following churches Kabwata, Lusaka, Emmasdale, Mount Makulu and Crossway Baptist Churches who run it through a faculty that also serves as the board of directors. Although originally designed to train Pastors from Lusaka high-density compounds it is increasingly opening up to all aspiring students. It currently has an advisory board of pastors from these compounds.
