Practical Theology
PP1- Christian Ethics
The course is a study of the structure, content and Christian approach to ethics, understanding the demands of Christian living, and applying God's Word to the moral choices that confront Christians every day. It touches on the foundations and source of African ethics and contemporary ethical issues facing African christians, which may include issues such as abortion, polygamy, witchcraft, treatment of widows and orphans, incest, corruption, etc.
PP2 - Introduction to the Christian Worldview
This is a systematic and practical study of the Christian worldview in the context of the African cultural milieu. The purpose of the course is to develop ability in the students to think and express themselves Christianly and reasonably in the whole of their African life experience. This course is foundational to the development of the Christian student's personal, theological, relational, and environmental perspectives.
PP3 - Call and Character of the Man of God
This is a systematic and practical study of the Christian's vocation in general as well as what elements constitute a formal "call" to pastoral ministry, church planting, or missionary labor. This is also a thematic and practical study of biblical principles and guidelines for spiritual formation and personal godliness. Includes readings in Christian devotional classics.
PP4 - Sermon Preparation and Preaching I
This is a systematic and practical study regarding the nature and method of preparing sermons and lectures. It includes an analysis of types of sermons (expositional and topical).
PP5 - Discipleship & Spiritual Formation
This is a systematic and practical study of the nurture of the soul of the man of God in the graces of true Christ-likeness and godliness. The course helps train the man of God in the use of the private and public means of grace and also proposes biblical ways of making and building disciples of Christ in the church.
PP6 - Pastoral Oversight & Visitation
This is a systematic and practical study of the work of the pastor outside the work of preaching. It includes the work of training leaders, visitation of congregants, overseeing the meetings of the church, praying for the church, officiating at the weddings and funerals of church members, and leading the church in the realization of the Great Commission.
PP7 - Sermon Preparation and Preaching II
This is a systematic and practical study regarding the nature and method of delivering sermons and lectures. It includes a consideration of the importance of the Holy Spirit and prayer in connection with the ministry of the word.
PP8 - Government and Administration of the Church
This is a systematic and practical study regarding the nature and methodologies of pastoral ministry in the church. It includes an analysis of the pastor’s role as leader, administrator, shepherd, counsellor, and trainer, as we as his relationship to his fellow elders, deacons, and other church staff.
PP9 - Evangelism, Church Planting & Missions
This is a systematic and practical study of the theology and practice of biblical evangelism and missions. It includes an analysis of evangelistic outreach in the contexts of an established local church, a new church-plant, and foreign missions.
PP10 - Pastoral issues in the African Context
The course is intended for pastors with a background in Christian theology and some experience of African cultures. It will unpack and evaluate the pastoral issues in the African context with the aim of promoting a biblical viewpoint and equipping the pastors with biblical pastoral methods that are sensitive to the African cultural climate.
PP11 - Pastoral Counselling
This is a systematic and practical study of the theology, principles, and methodology of biblical counselling in the context of pastoral work.
PP12 - cultural Transformation, Development & Mercy Ministries
This is a systematic and practical study designed to show students that the church corporately and Christians individually must play their part in society's transformation and development beyond the work of evangelism and missions" It explores this subject from a biblical framework and from the creation-fall-redemption--- consummation motif. Finally, it enables students to think through their own engagement in the area of volunteerism.
